Eng. Khaled Al-Molhem, Director General of Saudi Arabian Airlines, signed the agreement for Saudia while Mr. Leo van Wijk, chairman of SkyTeam signed for the alliance. It is worth mentioning that SkyTeam was established in June 2000 with the participation of four airlines: Aeromexico, Delta Air Lines, Air France and Korean Air. In September of the same year the largest alliance in air cargo was announced under the name SkyTeam Air Cargo. SkyTeam offers its 385 million annual passengers a worldwide system of over 12,500 daily flights to 898 destinations in 169 countries. An airline has to meet stringent requirements such as customer service standards, safety levels and technology adaptability, to become a member.
