Hangar No.11

The project, which would cost a lot if it was assigned to the manufacturer, was conducted in Hangar No. 11 in SAEI by a highly qualified team leaded by Eng. Marwan Ghulam who made the required studies and plans to accomplish this challenging task.

Obstacles and Solutions

The main obstacle in the project is that the wings of the plane must not exceed eight and half meters and the height of the fuselage, also, must not exceed five meters and half (i.e. the maximum permitted width and height). That is why the Saudi team conducted a highly precise study to determine the best points to dismantle the wings, the rudder, and the vertical stabilizer.

Diamond Cable

To reassemble the wings professionally, it must be dismantled in a straight line which is impossible through the traditional method of dismantling. That is why the team made use of diamond cable which is used for marble and granite cutting.

The Journey to Riyadh

In 17th Nov., the 43-tons airplane, which has been dismantled into nine parts, was carried and shipped by nine trucks at 25 km/h and arrivedin 22nd, Nov. to Riyadh where the reassembling phase took place.
