SV Operates Umrah flight from Terengganu

Saudia made history in Malaysia by becoming the first foreign carrier to operate Umrah flight from Terengganu (TGG). “This is our first destination in Malaysia outside Kuala Lumpur, our permanent station,” said Mr. Mohsin Algarni, General Manager Sales and Services for Asia and Australia.

The flight SV2192 departed Terengganu to Jeddah on May 26, 2012 carrying 450 passengers and their return flight is scheduled for June 7, 2012.

The flight departure was witnessed by Chief Minister of the State of Terengganu HE Dato Seri Haji Ahmad Bin Said as well as Saudi Ambassador to Malaysia HE Fahad Alrashid and Counselor/ Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Mohammed Alshahlan.

Saudia has a plan to operate another flight, which is scheduled to depart TGG on July 19.

As TGG is a domestic airport and domestic flights are operating with narrow bodied aircraft (B737), arrangements were made to relocate ground handling equipment to handle B747. These arrangements were only finalized on May 21, 2012.

TGG is the hub point for the East Coast of Malaysia Umrah market to serve other states such as Kelantan, which has a small airport KBR and neighboring Pahang state with their airport KUA.
